Any plans for the 4th?

  Re: (...)
I'm having a cook-out for everyone on Friday. Hopefully the weather will hold, for the past 3 weeks, it has started out sort of sunny, hot and humid, and by early afternoon thunder storms move in. I'm going for it anyways, there's plenty of room inside (and air conditioning).

Here's the menu:

Stuffed Mushrooms w/ Swiss and tarragon

Tomato Mozzerella Tart

Meatballs in sweet and sour sauce (got the recipe here but can't remember who)

Spinach salad with blueberries and mandarin oranges w/candied pecans, citrus vin

Pasta Salad with Fresh Mozzerella and Basil (Lab's)

Potato Salad (Mom's)

Clam Chowder

Shrimp Salad in Phyllo cups

Hamburgers

Hot Dogs

Linguica

Texas Brownies

Orange Blossom Cupcakes (Daphne, I think!)

Fruit Kabobs with Pineapple Dip

And some sort of ducky app with cherry relish (thanks, Jean)

Whatcha all doing to celebrate?

Awright! Here's the recipes I want

Stuffed Mushrooms w/Swiss and tarragon
Tomato Mozzarella Tart
Meatballs in Sweet and Sour Sauce
Potato Salad (Mom's)
Shrimp Salad in Phylo cups [what kind of cookware do you use?]
Texas Brownies
Fruit Kabobs with Pineapple Dip

Think you can handle that? It all sounds good PJ dear.

I'm planning on staying home and maybe cooking something. Like those rolls with the crab sauce and shrimp Jean posted pictures of...the 800 lb gorilla can take the fixin's to the coast and my sister Carol can put it together and into the oven.
Don't wait too long to tell someone you love them.

I think Jennifer will be home - don't know if she'll be working. If she is it'll just be Bob and I - something on the grill, movies, a hot tub, and to bed early so we can get up and go to the Farmers' Market in the morning. He's on call so those plans could change. But we're hoping for the best.

No boating this trip - Bob and Bill have the seats out of the runabout! Besides smart people don't go near the river on the 4th! It's a flippin' zoo out there.

Just lots of good food and visiting Sweetie!!! I am so excited!!!!1

Sounds like fun!

We're going to be hosting an open house for teenage daughter's HS graduation on Sunday, so I'll be in preparation mode until then.

Here's her graduation photo (one of them anyway) [Image: IMG_1993CROPPED-1.jpg]

Menu (her choices)
Pulled pork sandwiches
Pasta Salad
Potato Salad
Fruit and Vege trays (my recommendation)
Homemade cookies (she's baking)

It's from noon to 4 and we've invited about 200 people, but since it's a holiday weekend are expecting about half to stop by.

We have a blended family that has trouble getting together at the same time. Christmas is impossible, the 4th is our time--we have a pool--a magnate--kids, grandkids, and they all like each other!!--
Indiana, Austin, Plano--they all come--
4th--baby backs, brisket, sausage, Hatian cole slaw, lemon potato salad, Hickory house beans,,Hatch chili dip, salsa, mango sorbet, blueberry cheesecake

All this after Belgian waffles and bacon in the morning.

5th--shrimp with sauces--then pizza and Caeser salad
6th--New Orleans brunch--Turtle soup, and custom omlet with tasso. Fruit salad.
Bloody bulls, salty dogs, mimosas, Gewurtz, and downhill from there!!

I'm about to pull a "Lorraine" and start changing my menu after reading all these great ideas!!!

Oh Bill, long time ago I made a Crabmeat omelet with a Tasso Hollandaise that was just out of this world - haven't made it again.....hmmmmm

Some old friends are coming for the 4th party, so will have fun cooking for them on Saturday - will play with the crab stuffed dinner rolls for them.

We're doing brats in beer, a couple of appys, maybe LJ's Grandma's Greek salad and a couple of desserts. Everyone is bringing a dish, so won't have to do much. Don't know yet what I'm making...been too busy with Capt. Jay's fish! He's gone now, but boy did we pig out on the bounty he brot with him.

Geez, this is Thursday, isn't it??? Guess I'd better get my butt in gear...

* * * * * * * *

O.K., I'm good to go, here's what we'll be putting out for our part tomorrow

Honey-Peppered Goat Cheese w/Fig Balsamic drizzle
White Stilton w/apricot & crackers
Good old Lipton's onion dip w/salsa added & chips
Brats with all the garbage
LJ's Grandma's Greek Pasta
Watermelon
"Double the Yum Cake" - don't you love the cake name? it's a chocolate sheet cake with a layer of peanut butter spread over while it's still warm, then topped with a chocolate glaze. What's not to love
Banana Cake topped with cream cheese (cardamom, cinnamon & rum) and toasted walnuts.

guess, I'd better get busy.

Have a wonderful holiday to all of us!
Retired and having fun writing cookbooks, tasting wine and sharing recipes with all my friends.
