First Farmers Markets

Hit two today, small, but very nice ones.

In Ellensburg, I headed straight for the Heirloom vendor -

Lemon Boy, ----- Chocolate Cherry, ----- Aunt Ruby's German Green

Picked up some breadsticks - nothing in either that I'd never seen before, but got some more ideas. One vendor had a Mexican Salsa dry mix that I got to play with.

But, oh those Heirlooms - I'm going to try AGAIN to save sees from each of them......fingers crossed.

They are beautiful. My mom went to a little farm in the valley here and got some local strawberries. YUM!

Jean, ours opened last Sat--we have concentrated on tomatoes, heirloom tomatos, and bell peppers. We have made two batches of sun dried tomato pesto, (using our abundance of basil), Jeff Smith's (God give his soul rest--I did like him) Sicilian Tomato sauce, Buffalata Caprese, and two batches of roasted tomato/basil soup for the freezer. Monday we make a gazpacho for the family 4th!! Life is good this time of year--but hot.

The tomatoes do look beautiful. I haven't seen tomatoes from the local farmers here yet.
Just out of curiousity.....what are those red marks on some of the knives?

The red marks? That's fingernail polish (what's left of it). Knives had a way of walking off into other student's tool boxes at school.....We all painted ours differently.

I put my name onto the tangs of mine with a Dremel engraver: no "painted-on" marks to fall off or wear out.

As you can see these have lasted 10+ years and still an embarrassment...
