If you could wish... - Roxanne 21 - 08-26-2007

...for one item from the Southwest US, what would it be??

Peter is on his way to Arizona for a visit with daughter Wendy and because I have NO access to the many ingredients available in the area I will ask him to bring that something special back with him.

SOOOO--what should I request?

It cannot be a fresh item--not allowed on the flight for import here. I would love to try a jicama--just for the heck of it but....

I wish I could remember the items you've mentioned over the months that you don't have access to...

do you think if I did a search for "#$^#@@##" it would list the things you don't have???

Chipotles Peppers
A jar of Romesco
Any form of dried Chili's
Salsa's - Mild, Medium and Hot
Cumin
Mexican Oregano
Blue Corn Mix
Mexican Chocolate

Does that get you started?

Re: If you could wish... - Roxanne 21 - 08-26-2007

YES!!!! Now to begin my decision!!!

Blue corn mix??? Yuppp!!

How is Mexican chocolate different than Belgain/Swiss?? Curious to know about the Mexican oregano too---

I can relate to those dries chipotles, too.

Keep the suggestions coming, y'all----

Too bad you already ordered Weeknight Menus 2. That was my first thought. Any spices you can't get there?

Anchos (which are dried poblanos) are peppers that all of us use quite a bit.

....putting my thinking cap on...

Mexican chocolate has a totally different flavor to it. It has been flavored with cinnamon, almonds and vanilla and is used in Mole'.

Mexican Oregano is similar to what you probably use now, but it's got a bigger punch in flavor.

Also get some spice rubs for grilling

Re: If you could wish... - cjs - 08-27-2007

a few more ideas - hope I'm not repeating someone....

canned chipotle chile in adobo sauce
black beans
Ortega canned green chili peppers
Cilantro seeds
manzanillos green olives
masa harina
whole cumin seeds
canned jalapenos and/or serranos
dried pink or pinto beans

Peter's going to have to leave his clothes in Arizona....
