Items to make for a Sale in Home Town - mjkcooking - 08-22-2007 Hi I will be traveling to my home town in November and The town has a annual Food Sale - and craft sale Since I am not talented in crafts I would like to make some items for the Sale - Would any of you print up any recipes that have gone well at Sales and anything unique would be fun - This is a little town of less than 500 and they could use the money this sale brings in. We will be making items in my Mom's name - as my parents ran a business here for years and she is unable to bake or make recipes now. we go and visit her every year and this is the first time I will be here for the sale. So thanks for all your help - this is such a fun forum Marye Re: Items to make for a Sale in Home Town - bjcotton - 08-22-2007 How about making up the dry ingredients for a soup or something, add the recipe to the container and sell those. I usually buy those when I see them if the recipe is something I haven't tried before. Re: Items to make for a Sale in Home Town - HomeCulinarian - 08-23-2007 Did you notice Labrador's post about the dog biscuits for Erin's quest for holiday gift ideas? That might be something novel at your home town sale. Here's the link he provided. http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Dog-Biscuits-II/Detail.aspx Re: Items to make for a Sale in Home Town - cjs - 08-23-2007 Here's a couple ideas for you to look over - all are great bake sale items. I've made these in the small alum. loaf pans - CHOCOLATE PUMPKIN LOAF 3 1/3 cups flour 3 cups granulated sugar 2 tsps. baking soda 1 tsp. each: cinnamon -- nutmeg 4 eggs -- lightly beaten 2 cups canned pure pumpkin 1 cup vegetable oil 2/3 cup water 1/2 cup chopped nuts 4 ounces semi-sweet chocolate -- melted Glaze: 1 1/2 cups confectioners' sugar -- sifted 4 Tbsps. cold water -- (4 to 6) 1 ounce semi-sweet chocolate -- melted 2 tsps. hot water -- (2 to 4) 1. Heat oven to 350 degrees. Combine flour, sugar, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt in a large bowl; set aside. Whisk together eggs, pumpkin, oil and water in a medium bowl. Stir into the flour mixture; mix just until blended. Fold in the nuts. 2. Transfer 2 cups of the batter to a small bowl, stir in the melted chocolate. Spoon half of the remaining plain batter into the two greased and floured 9-by-5-inch loaf pans; spoon half the chocolate batter over the top of each pan. Spoon remaining plain batter evenly over the chocolate batter in each pan. Bake until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean and dry, about 1 hour, 10 minutes. Cool in pans on a wire rack 10 minutes; remove from pan to cool completely on wire rack. 3. For glaze, mix confectioners' sugar and cold water in a small bowl until the right drizzling consistency. Transfer half of the mixture to a separate bowl. Stir in chocolate and enough of the hot water to make the right consistency for drizzling. Drizzle white and chocolate glazes in a zigzag pattern on each loaf. ---- Dry soup mix pkgs., as Billy mentioned, are great at these sales also - I used to give them to the kids for Christmas. We've had 2 major floods here in as many years and it's terrible, no communications, isolated parts of town-I don't wish that on anyone. Did you decide what you're going to do yet? Some good ideas here. I really like the dog biscuit idea, even though I don't have a dog, so many people do, and love to spoil them! PJ Re: Items to make for a Sale in Home Town - cjs - 08-25-2007 well, well, just had a minor brainstorm here....Sept. 15th is my mother's 90 birthday - so, I think I'll make all of the above family favorites (except the cappuccino mix) for her birthday present!! 'Course, will have to save a little out for us... P.S. as I've been watching the flooding area on the U.S. map, I keep thinking some of you have to be in the midst of all this - is everyone o.k. around here???
