Fresh Basil Q - BarbaraS - 06-27-2014

Hey All,

I bought some basil today for Sunday's Confetti Pasta dinner from the latest issue.

My question is, do you cut off the dead ends of the stems and put the basil in water, like you would with flowers to "keep" it? I know not to put it in the fridge, but I want that fresh basil smell to last for a couple days. It comes in a hard plastic shell and I just don't want it moldering over two days.

I just cut the ends off the stems and then wrap them in a damp paper towel I've never put mine water.

I've done it both ways and they both work fine.

Don't refrigerate it, just leave it in the water

Very late in answering, but...I have a large bunch sitting in a glass of water on the counter, Today is day 3, no wilting, no blackening.

Lorraine,

I cut the stems, stuck them in fresh water on the island, they got a little wilty-looking, but still tasted very good for Sunday's dinner garnish.

Thanks for the responses, everyone!
