Review - Comeback Sauce - DFen911 - 07-17-2011

Ok in the current issue there is a sauce for the vegetarian burger called the comeback sauce. The only thing I changed was I did not use Tabasco but rather Tapatio instead. This sauce is FANTASTIC!! I made grilled burgers and topped them with bacon, cheddar and sauted tomatoes (cooked in bacon drippings and worcestershire sauce). I also grilled the buns on the grill as well.

This sauce is going to be used for many more items than just burgers! Just a very yummy sauce

Thanks for reviewing this! I was looking at it and thinking it sounded awfully good - sounds a little bit like the "fry sauce" they have here. I'll be sure to try it now!

"sauted tomatoes (cooked in bacon drippings and worcestershire sauce)" - really? sounds decadent!!

Some good dishes in the kitchens today, that's for sure!

Just looked at the magazine, Denise - did you serve on cornbread?

No I did a real burger Jean, going to do the vegetarian ones tomorrow to try.

Lorraine the sauce is -

1/4 cup chopped onion
1 Tbsp chopped garlic
1/4 cup mayo
2 Tbsp each of - Olive Oil, ketchup and chili sauce
1 Tbsp each of Worcestershire sauce and fresh lemon juice
1 tsp prepared yellow mustard

Put all into food processor until smooth. Season with Tabasco and black pepper. (I didn't use Tabasco but rather Tapatio)

For my burger I cooked up some sliced bacon till crispy. In another pan I sweated 2 leeks which I quartered and sliced very thin along with about 1/4 cup of small diced red bell pepper. These were then added to 1 lb of ground hamburger (15% fat). While the burgers were on the grill I took 4 small tomatoes (seeds removed) and diced them up. I put them in a small saute pan with 1 Tbsp of bacon drippings and 1 Tbsp of worcestershire sauce and some black pepper. I let these cook on med low with a cover for the first half, then when I flipped the burgers I removed the lid to let the moisture evaporate.

Burgers were rested while some extra sharp cheddar cheese melted over the top, they were then topped with the Comeback sauce, tomatoes and bacon.

Holy schomoly they were good

Ok I just used this sauce on a roast beef sandwich and it was outstanding. Laura put it on a toasted bagel with some avocado and said it was great!
