What the Heck is Going ON??? - cjs - 01-05-2011 I've tried to come once every hour today and we just had the fourth creep today..... Just give me a little time and I'm checking in every hour. But, I plan on sleeping tonight, so be it. Re: What the Heck is Going ON??? - Harborwitch - 01-05-2011 I saw, too, that Brian is out of the office. I guess the idiots have nothing better to do. Re: What the Heck is Going ON??? - labradors - 01-05-2011 As more and more forum sites update their software to prohibit links in the messages and signatures of brand-new members, the spambots, etc. will probably become more and more active on sites, such as this, that never update. Re: What the Heck is Going ON??? - Gourmet_Mom - 01-05-2011 FOUR?!?!? That's odd. Re: What the Heck is Going ON??? - labradors - 01-05-2011 Quote: Actually, that's even, but I won't tell anyone. Re: What the Heck is Going ON??? - DFen911 - 01-06-2011 I am guessing it is the same person. Is there to find out his IP and block that? Well I guess that would only work if he's using a static IP. But is there a way to see if the 4 posts were the same IP? Re: What the Heck is Going ON??? - labradors - 01-06-2011 Yes. On most forum sites, moderators see the IP address of each message posted, as well as the IP address from which each member registered. The mechanisms for banning usually allows any combination of IP address, email address and username. Since many of the spammers register with Russian email addresses (even though their IP addresses may not indicate Russia - probably due to proxy usage), it's not uncommon for a forum to ban registration by anyone with a ".ru" email address unless the site truly expects to get legitimate traffic from Russia. |
