BIG TIME OT!!!! Golden oldies - Roxanne 21 - 08-08-2010
I have been listening to our radio station today (while I was scrubbing my fingers to the you know what)and it has been playing the top 100 golden oldies voted for by the South African public. The number one was John Lennon's "Imagine".
What is your all time favorite oldie?
Mine is the Righteous Brothers' "Unchained Melody" but
there are soooo many more I could add ----ONLY ONE!!!!!
Would love to see what your choice is-----just curious.

Overall and still makes me cry - Cats in the Cradle.
I used to love this song so much I made it "our" favorite for a couple years thru different boyfriends - Sincerely (which sisters sang it????)

Oh yes! This is fun. My favorite all time song is by Otis Redding. Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay.
I have to stop and listen to this song everytine this song plays.

Laura----what a great video. GREAT SONG!!!! I really don't know much about the history of this man. Wasn't this a hit afte his death? SOOOO young and talented.
Now--I also clicked on to Michael Bolton's version....MISTAKE!!!! He sounded like he was having a terrible time with a bowel movement.....did I say that??

I prefer the original artists, Creedence Clearwater Revival, but the extended version of the song.
My tastes are so eclectic (almost anything, except rap, hip hop and reggaeton [not to be confused with reggae, which I DO like])) that I'll just say a few things about what I consider to be two of the most beautiful songs ever written.
For something contemporary, I would choose "Vincent" by Don McLean. It's amazing how many people know it only as "Starry, starry night," hardly paying attention to the rest of the lyrics and, because of that, fail to realise it is about Vincent van Gogh. If you only know it from occasional radio play, listen to it closely, some time.
As I mentioned in a much earlier thread, I would say that the most beautiful song, ever, is Cantique de Jean Racine by Gabriel Fauré (who wrote it when he was only 19!). Of course, Fauré's version was in French, so here is the English translation we sang in choir:

LOL! That's always been my opinion of his singing. I think the old TV show, In Living Color, nailed it when they did one of their fake music videos of an impersonation of him on the song "When a Man Loves a Woman." Their version started off:
