Did anyone make this cake without the rum? I was thinking of making it for tomorrow, but there will be lots of kids and just didn't want to make it with the rum.
Any thoughts?

The rum seems to be just for flavor. I bet you could get away without it. Might have to adjust the liquid a tad. What about those syrups everyone puts in their coffee? You could get a different flavor. But you'll have to watch the sugar that you don't make to too sweet.
I'd just omit it and add the 1/2 cup of extra liquid.

I always make it without the rum because of the kid thing and it's always wonderful.
Oh, and I did add the extra 1/2 c. of liquid.

I never used rum in it. It is the best cake ever.
