Re: (...)
I'm using buttermilk today....
and I have about 2 + cups left, so I did a mastercook search for 'buttermilk' and geez, got 196 responses. I clicked select all and printed them out - I didn't know I could do that. Now I can just look at the whole list to see what looks good for right now.
I always seem to have buttermilk leftover, especially since I like to get a half-gallon so it forces me to cook/marinade with it more. So now I have a nice folder to refer to from now on.
How great is that?

I've been really happy with Saco Powdered Buttermilk. Just add 4T to 1 cup water. I was constantly either throwing out buttermilk or struggling to use it up before I found Saco. It is moderately priced and has a shelf life of 2+ years if refrigerated after opening. I go through 3-4 12 oz. cans a year. I actuallly prefer the taste to liquid buttermilk.

I always use leftover buttermilk to make banana bread, or sometimes as a brine for pork chops w/ a bit of salt.

Pretty great, IMO, since I never think to use that feature on my MC program, and I've been using MC for at least 10 years! Now, I think I'll go look at what other features I'm not using......

Ok, dum dum here. Sorry for not "getting" your post. Yes, that's a great find. I should look to see if my cooking software does the same (Living Cookbook). It seems I always have leftover panko or whipping cream or something that I just need to use up.

Yes, I know... the forums wouldn't be as fun without a bit of teasing now and then
